It gives me the feeling of coming home.\u2019<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Denise Seyhan\u2019s superbly controlled, unmistakably dramatic voice captivates with its rich tonal palette and remarkable flexibility. Thanks to her great openness and infectious enthusiasm, she is able to empathise well even with unconventional staging concepts. \u201cShe is an outstanding singer and a wonderful stage performer\u201d (Elias Grandy).<\/p>\n<p>The German-Ottoman mezzo-soprano completed her training after studying singing at the Karlsruhe University of Music, initially under Gabriele Kniesel, who also guided her during her second change of vocal Fach back to the mezzo repertoire. She then spent many years working with Walter Donati and Anna Rita Esposito to master the Italian singing technique (old school), which enabled her voice to develop rapidly into the dramatic Fach.<\/p>\n<p>Following her first engagements as Dorabella and H\u00e4nsel, she soon took on important dramatic roles such as the<strong> Knusperhexe<\/strong> (\u201cH\u00e4nsel and Gretel\u201d), <strong>Ulrica<\/strong> (\u201cUn ballo in Maschera\u201d), <strong>Amneris<\/strong> (\u201cAida\u201d), <strong>Fricka<\/strong> (\u201cDie Walk\u00fcre\u201d and \u201cDas Rheingold\u201d), <strong>Erda<\/strong> (\u201cDas Rheingold\u201d), \u00a0<strong>Old Lady<\/strong> (\u201cCandide\u201d), as well as the <strong>3rd Lady<\/strong> (\u201cThe Magic Flute\u201d) and the <strong>1st Maid<\/strong> (\u201cElektra\u201d). She also sang this role in her first opera recording, a complete recording of Elektra, which was released in March 2025 on the classical label \u201cSolo Musica\u201d.<br \/>\nShe makes guest appearances at the Badisches Staatstheater, MiR Gelsenkirchen, Pforzheim, Giessen, Heidelberg and Brandenburg, as well as in numerous independent productions.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to her work as an opera singer, she performs in concerts both at home and abroad, drawing on a wide-ranging repertoire. Since 2024, she has been focusing more heavily on her concert career, and in 2025 she sang, among other works, the St John Passion, Mozart\u2019s Requiem, the Stabat Mater (Pergolesi) and the Mass in D major (Haydn). To mark the 125th anniversary of the Hymnus Boys\u2019 Choir, she made her debut at the <strong>Liederhalle Stuttgart<\/strong>, performing the alto solo in \u201cElijah\u201d under the baton of Rainer Johannes Homburg.<\/p>\n<p>Her schedule for 2026 is already packed with concert engagements, including K. Jenkins\u2019 \u201cMass for Peace \u2013 The Armed Man\u201d. She subsequently produced the musical theatre piece \u201cDie rosa Gefahr\u201d in 2022, which tells the story of six female composers; \u201cDie Mimusen\u201d have been touring Germany with this production ever since, joined by actress Henrietta Teipel from autumn 2022 onwards.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, she was a finalist in the \u201cPrix Atelier d\u2019excellence\u201d (focusing on Italian opera), a semi-finalist in the \u201cWagner Voices\u201d category at the \u201cNuovo Canto\u201d competition in Milan, Italy, and also at the NYIOP singing competitions (2020 and 2024).<\/p>\n<p>Denise Seyhan has enjoyed fruitful musical collaborations with conductors including Elias Grandy, Yura Yang, Rainer Johannes Homburg and Michael Hofstetter. On stage, she has worked with directors including Ingo Kerkhof, Ulla Thei\u00dfen, Kristina Wuss and Catherine Miville.<\/p>\n<p>She studies her repertoire with Marius Zachmann, Alessandro Pr\u00e0tico, Rainer Armbrust and the renowned coach Margaret Singer (\u20202023).
